Ever heard of Sour Grapes??
This article is not going to instruct you about what types of grapes you need to eat or give you some diet tips!! English, as every one of us knows, is such a beautiful language. The reason we say it is beautiful because of the Idioms and phrases it has got. Will you believe if I say each and every phrase has a story behind it!! One such phrase which is used widely when talking about the attitudes of people is Sour Grapes.
What does it mean and how it refers attitude?? Sour grapes refer to an attitude of pretending to despise something because we can't have it ourselves. In other words, an attitude of hating something just because we can't get it. That is quite interesting isn't it?? How many sour grapes have we seen in the passage of our life??
Don't bother counting, leave it to mathematicians!!
The most amazing part of this phrase is the story behind it. The source is the tale of the fox and the grapes, one of the famous fables of Aesop, a Greek storyteller of the 6th century BC. The story goes like this. The fox tries to reach a bunch of juicy grapes hanging from a vine high above its head. After making several attempts, it gives up and stalks off, saying "I am sure the grapes are sour anyway"
Nevertheless, that fox is good at consoling himself. Isn't it??
