A Half-baked Media!!

"Pen is mightier than sword" is the famous maxim which clearly explains the power of journalist and the divinity of that profession. I personally admire journalism as it is one of the top rated professions. Why is this profession so powerful??  What distinguishes journalists from engineers, doctors and many more ?? The only reason that makes them powerful is their ability to make or break the nation. This is because their profession is to inform people about everything under the sun. Information is more powerful than nuclear missiles. That is the reason I said that Journalists have the power to make or break the nation.

Is our Indian media performing this divine job at least with the least amount of divinity?? If you ask me to answer this question, I can give a straight forward "No". I am very confidant about this answer than the answers which I had given in the past years during my schooling !! The reason for blaming the media to be half-baked now days is because of the type of info the media is providing to the people. Daily, there are hundreds of flights taking off and landing successfully. Have any of us seen a headline reading "123 Flights landed successfully and all passengers enjoyed the ride " . I can bet all my wealth if you can show me a headline like this.

Instead, what the flash news would be reading is "Plane crashed into the sea and more than 300 feared dead" with clear, high resolution pictures depicting exactly where they got hurt and which part of the body they lost and many more. If you want to see how best a photographic skill can be, then watch these Indian Media headlines. They should have provided this information without hurting the mindsets of other people. People should not think that air travel itself is dangerous but that is how they would think if headlines read like this. What should have been the least spotted is occupying the headlines!!

When twin towers were shattered by some ill-thinking gentlemen, one of the leading televisions showed exactly what happened by using caricatures. They won award for this creativity. They used toy air plane and exactly replicated what happened while others where taking high resolution photographs of the dead!! That would not terrify even a 3 year old child. Hats off to that kind of journalism!!

While giving lecture to a group of students, a 14-year old girl asked Abdul Kalam for his autograph. He asked what her goal in life was. She replied, "I want to live in a DEVELOPED  INDIA ". Abdul kalam appealed to the nation, "For her, you and I will have to build that DEVELOPED INDIA". Great words from the greatest man!! We can never visualize our Developed India unless the pillar of the nation, Media, starts doing justice to what is called one of the most respected professions in the world.

Please don't  spoil my nation just for TRPs (Television Rating Points) .
